Company Uusi Maailma’s main production of 2024, DISCO AND DEATH – visual concert will soon premiere. The Ukrainian musicians selected through the open call and Company Uusi Maailma’s trusty performers have formed into one wonderful new-worldly orchestra throughout the rehearsals.
The main partner and venue provider is the historic Cultural Centre Villa Rana. Blomstedt’s hall has turned around for the performance; the audience sits on the stage of the hall and the stand is folded up to make room for the dance, movements of the orchestra and abundance of disco balls.
DISCO AND DEATH is a performing art production that combines music, dance and light in a powerful way. The backbone of the performance is live music. The endlessly nostalgic power ballads, such as Europe’s Carrie and Whitesnake’s Is this love, create a grand, yet wistful undertone for the performance, which Pekka Huttunen‘s genre-defying commissioned compositions tune to a new level. As a result, a distinctive musical microclimate is formed in the Blomstedt hall.
DISCO AND DEATH will be performed in Jyväskylä at Cultural Centre Villa Rana’s Blomstedt hall on 11.10. -13.10. with two performances each day. The duration of the show is approximately 50 minutes, and is suitable for people over 12 years old.
The show contains heavy use of theatrical smoke and at times loud music and strong light effects. The performance is non-verbal and suitable for people of all languages.
